Mission Statement
The purpose of the Mercury Award is to seek to advance the serious and scholarly study of those esoteric sciences which teach us about what we believe to be a dynamic relationship between the soul and the stars. The roots of the esoteric sciences form the crossroads of cosmology and psychology, astronomy and astrology. The truths and traditions of these ancient sciences have passed down to us first by word of mouth, more recently in written form. We seek to ensure that the beacon of light cast by the ancient wisdom of the Western tradition continues to brighten the paths of spiritual seekers.
Awards Program
The Mercury Award was created in 2005 to honour the specific work of an individual whose work has delivered to us, in some unique way, the message of the gods. The Mercury Award is in the amount of $20,000 and will be given out once each year.
The 2007 Mercury Award is presented to Rob Hand whose astounding body of work in the field of astrology has educated thousands of people world-wide. His book Horoscope Symbols explores both the philosophical foundations of astrology as well as providing an in-depth look at the meanings of the components which combine to create what we know as the “birth chart”. Though he has gone on to write many better-known books, Horoscope Symbols is being singled out because of the depth and breadth of its significance. Therein, Hand covers the scientific, historical and psychological perspectives relating to astrology and leads the reader away from the sense of fatalism which permeates so much of astrology to a deeper understanding of the role of personal choice in the life of the individual.
The 2006 Mercury Award was presented to Mary Greer for the profound influence her book Tarot for Yourself has had on untold numbers of individuals. This work helped individuals figure out that they themselves could be in communication with the gods.
